Swallow (move) - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokmon encyclopedia

From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.

Swallow (Japanese: のみこむ Swallow) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation III.

The Pokémon who are able to learn this move are also able to learn the related moves Stockpile and Spit Up, except Snorlax, Munchlax, Trubbish, Garbodor, and Guzzlord, which cannot learn Spit Up.

Effect

Generation III

This move will fail if the user has not used Stockpile. If Swallow is used after stockpiling, it recovers the user's HP depending on the number of times Stockpile was used:

  • 1× → 25% of the user's maximum HP
  • 2× → 50% of the user's maximum HP
  • 3× → 100% of the user's maximum HP

After Swallow is used, the stockpile count will be reset.

Swallow can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 1 bonus appeal point if Stockpile was used in the previous turn.

Generation IV

Swallow now removes any Defense and Special Defense boosts gained through Stockpile. However, it simply will say the effect wore off without showing stat changing, unlike Stockpile.

Generation V onwards

The Stockpile removal is now shown as a stat change. For each Stockpile that successfully changed a defensive stat, that stat will drop by two stages if the Pokémon has Simple at the time of using Swallow, rise by one stage if the Pokémon has Contrary at that time, or drop by one stage with any other ability. Stockpiles that did not result in stat changes (most likely because the stat was already maxed out) are not taken into account for this adjustment, but Stockpiles that resulted in stat changes which were later erased by a move such as Haze or Clear Smog are.

Swallow can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, giving an extra three appeal points if Stockpile was used in the prior turn.

If powered up by a Normalium Z into Z-Swallow, all of the user's lowered stats are reset.
